The update is only aimed at Creators Update systems

Microsoft has just released a new cumulative update for Windows 10, this time exclusively for systems running the Creators Update - PCs still on the Anniversary Update, as well as those running version 1511 and the RTM build, aren’t getting any cumulative updates.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4016240 bumps OS version to 15063.250 and includes only bug fixes and performance improvements, with no new features being added - this is the case of every cumulative update, as Microsoft uses them to address the most recent issues in the operating system.

What’s new in cumulative update KB4016240?

First and foremost, Microsoft says that KB4016240 includes a fix for virtual machines that are losing network connectivity while provisioning IP addresses, while also addressing bugs in Internet Explorer not saving JavaScript files when exporting to MHT.

In terms of security improvements, Internet Explorer users are again targeted by the cumulative update, as KB4016240 fixes a memory leak experienced with cross-domain content.

Microsoft has also managed to repair a bug experienced by Windows 10 users after upgrading to the Creators Update with system language set to Chinese. The company says some of these users were hit by a bug causing the progress page to display geometric shapes instead of localized strings.

As for gaming, KB4016240 address an issue “where running Win32 Direct3D applications or games in full-screen exclusive mode causes the system to become unresponsive when resuming from Connected Standby,” as the company explains today.

And last but not least, there are some goodies for other applications, including Microsoft Edge, which is the new default browser in Windows 10.

As is the case with every cumulative update for Windows 10, a reboot is required to complete the install, so make sure you save your work before anything else. Also, we are not aware of any failed installs so far and Microsoft says that everything is working correctly for most users, but we’ll keep an eye out on reports and we’ll let you know if any bugs are discovered.
