Arne Exton announced today the release of a new build of his Arch Linux-based ArchEX GNU/Linux distribution built around the lightweight LXQt desktop environment.

ArchEX Build 170327 comes about ten days after Build 170318 to update the kernel stack to the upstream, recently released Linux 4.10.5 kernel, but also to sync the base system with the stable repositories of Arch Linux.

Also new in the ArchEX Build 170327 release, there's the Calamares universal installer framework, which makes it possible for users to install the Arch Linux-based operating system on their personal computers in less than 10 minutes.

Other than that, there's the popular, third-party Yaourt package manager, which is pre-installed in ArchEX Build 170327 to allow users to install community maintained packages from AUR (Arch User Repository).

"Calamares works almost perfect in ArchEX," said Arne Exton. "I’ve also added Yaourt, A Pacman frontend. If you want to install certain special packages, for example, Google Chrome and Spotify you must use Yaourt."

Available only for 64-bit PCs

ArchEX Build 17032 comes pre-installed with numerous well-known applications, among which we can mention Mozilla Firefox, GIMP, GParted, Wicd, and GCC. You can study the full package list if you're curious to know what's installed.

ArchEX Build 17032 is available for download right now on our website as a 64-bit Live ISO image that you can use directly from the bootable medium (USB or DVD), or installed on your personal computer as your daily driver.

Detailed installations are provided by Arne Exton on his website, and you should check out the gallery below if you want to see ArchEX in action before attempting to download or install it on your PC. Again, please note that 32-bit systems are not supported!
