Windows Slated To Get Surpassed By Android As Most Used OS

Everyone who knows anything about computers knows that Windows won the war for the desktop a long time ago. Even today, it holds an impressive 84.1 percent of that market. Unfortunately for Microsoft, the battlefield has shifted.

In 2012, Android could claim just 2.2 percent of the total OS market (desktop PCs, laptop PCs and smart devices), compared to a hefty 82 percent market share for Microsoft’s Windows. Fast forward to 2017, and the picture is startlingly different.

Windows’ market share has dropped to 38.6 percent, with Google’s Android rapidly closing the gap, claiming 37.4 percent. Apple’s iOS comes in a distant third with 12.99 percent.

If the trend continues, then by next year, Android will surpass Windows as the most used OS in the world.

Microsoft was slow to realize the seismic shift in the marketplace, and once it did, the company’s initial forays into the newly emerging market were clumsy with a number of false starts. The release of Windows 10 represents the company’s latest effort and is their strongest offering to date.

At this point, despite the strength of Microsoft’s latest offering, it is all but certain that Android will overtake Windows as the dominant OS. What remains to be seen, however, is whether Windows 10 will allow Microsoft to reclaim the throne.

If you look at the numbers from just five years ago, suggesting that Android would one day dominate Windows would have been laughable. It was simply unthinkable, and yet, this is the current state of the market.

It matters because it underscores the significance of the shift away from PCs and laptops to handheld devices. That shift will alter, perhaps significantly, the shape and functionality of software for years, if not decades to come.

Since computers first entered our homes, Microsoft has been firmly in the driver’s seat. That is about to change. It’s a brave new world.

Its garbage like this that will inspire Microsoft to become even worse than they are now.
The fact is every idiot has a phone these days and there in lies the problem... these idiots that do not use a computer are the same people that bother you every day to download them the latest "moviez" and complain about ads (coming from their pathetically restricted restricted phone, manufactured from the ground up to monotize your entire existence).
Phones are woven into our lives whether we like it or not and what comes with that is a level of trust that is not being met by security.
You have to love how phones are being hacked and proven to be completely insecure but we are seeing things such as biometrics, facial recognition being forced down our throats meanwhile we are bombarded with ads and other kinds of rubbish being distributed by the kings of rubbish themselves... Google!
For the amount of resources they have you would think they could develop a better app store for starters.

PC's have and always will be the more powerful and flexible option, sadly Microsoft wants to water down PC's and replicate the failures of a poor OS just to appease the dumbledorks of the tech world, the same can be said about Mozilla as they follow Google Chrome into the complete and utter destruction of power and flexibility.

Google is the wolf in sheep's clothing and possibly the worst thing to happen in the tech world as it holds far too much power and influence.
