Google: We've Already Fixed Most Bugs Exposed in WikiLeaks' Vault 7 Files

Google's already fixed some of those WikiLeaks exposed vulnerabilities

Google claims that it has already fixed many of the vulnerabilities discussed in the WikiLeaks Vault 7 revelations regarding the extensive hacking capabilities of the CIA.

According to the huge file dump from WikiLeaks, in which alleged CIA documents containing lists of vulnerabilities in popular tech products, including Google's Android and Apple's iOS, CIA's hackers discovered zero-day vulnerabilities, exploited them, and managed to get into targeted phones, bypassing encryption settings set into various messaging apps and so on.

"As we've reviewed the documents, we're confident that security updates and protections in both Chrome and Android already shield users from many of these alleged vulnerabilities. Our analysis is ongoing, and we will implement any further necessary protections. We've always made security a top priority, and we continue to invest in our defenses," came Google's statement via Heather Adkins, director of information security and privacy.

Given Google's statement, we can assume that some of the bugs the CIA is exploiting haven't been fixed or Google has no idea what they are, and that's normal. In fact, it's because of instances such as this one that Google and other companies have demanded that the intelligence agencies of the United States immediately report zero-day vulnerabilities they discover. Keeping them locked up and exploiting them for their own game puts millions upon millions of people at risk. After all, if one hacker managed to find the security hole, others may as well, others that have even more nefarious purposes.

The worst part - exploiting zero-day vulnerabilities

The tech industry as a whole reacted to the file dump, expressing concern over CIA's tendency to stockpile vulnerabilities instead of sharing information with the affected services.

"The CIA seems to be stockpiling vulnerabilities, and WikiLeaks seems to be using that trove for shock value rather than coordinating disclosure to the affected companies to give them a chance o fix it and protect users. [...] We hope this raises awareness to the severity of these issues and the urgency of collaborating on reforms," said Mozilla's chief legal and business officer Denelle Dixon to the New York Times.

Files exposed by WikiLeaks in its Vault 7 release indicate the CIA has many ways to control the most popular gadgets and always looks into finding new ways to break into them. Malware, viruses and other types of exploits are something the CIA works on regularly.

Google unlike Microsoft even lost there battle in court were they have to hand data over to the Government from overseas ..So really they dont need spyware to get you're data. from Google . And the CIA unlike NSA and the FBI  witch are the ones we really need to worry about that targets on a mass scale. The CIA  only targets certain people with there spyware  and if you are a target you dont know what they will exploit next to track you.

People have been saying the CIA was doing this all along for years and people just called them conspiracy theorist. So the scary thing is not the CIA doing this that's what spies do . The scary thing is people are so naive that it takes a mole in the CIA or some other agency to make them realize this stuff do exist  .

What?  They work for us!  And (by definition) they do what a majority of us (citizens) wants.  :coolwink:

I dont even understand what you're talking about it sure is nothing I was talking about meaning you're trying to put words in my mouth .But I do know i'm sick of reading adverts from companies that hoard you're data  and were exposed long ago trying to defend there self  because there worried people want use there services . Anything Google does is for the greater good of Google that's how they became the most powerful company in the world in a very short time in 2006 I didn't even know who they was . Google will tell you anything to keep you using there services and they will give the Government anything they want to protect there business.

My comment was about the government agencies.  In a democracy, the government is by the people.  So whatever our government does, we-the-people are responsible (in some way, indirect perhaps).  ;)

The CIA , FBI  , NSA  etc dont work for us they work for the USA Government  there job is they serve and protect The USA's interest if you're not from there you need too look at you're own law enforcement for protection . We the people of the USA did not invent these spies even the Government did  we did not get a vote .The CIA history dates back too the days of George Washington only they became coordinated after world war 2 so how are we the people responsible for something that has existed before we were even born?

Worth revisiting and contemplating, every now and then:   :)

"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

[...]

It is for us the living ...— that we here highly resolve ....— and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."   ^_^

I dont know were you're from but the CIA are not a threat to the people that are from the USA  there a threat to overseas and the laws in the USA do not apply  to them only the laws of were they at do and since to work in covert operations they dont really follow the laws of the land of were there at they take people not from USA and torture them to get info from them. So if there after you spyware would be  so they can find you because you have something they want . CIA = Big power,  Big Power = Big Money the CIA are funded by the rich witch many of the rich are involved in politics . But the CIA are above politics  just like the FBI are they can take people in politics down even.

Nixon's mistake was he fooled  with J. Edgar Hoover and made him do things that he was against who had dirt on everyone.. But the CIA  they have dirt on many people all over the world . They use to say back then two things you dont mess with is the FBI and the CIA.  But so do many other countries spies.have just as much info. But you dont be reading about there covert opts in the news unless they work with the USA . The Government brought this down on themselves they hire contractors from the outside and allow them access to secret covert opts. You should never hire temps to do the governments work. Hoover took most of his secrets to the  grave with him  now days the Government lets people who are not fully investigated work for them because

1. Government jobs dont pay as good as non Government Jobs

2. The Government want give them the money to hire permanent workers.
