No, not required ! It just adds some extra Codecs that are needed in some (rare) cases to decode some (mostly) audio formats.
Short explanation e.g. here (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_video/codecs/potplayer-codec-pack-aka-opencodec-64-bit.cfm)
...and additional d/l option.

Quote

The PotPlayer Codec Pack had been included in a distribution package before but it was separated while launching a global version to avoid license issues. If not installed, PotPlayer won't decode AAC/AAC LATM/AC3/EAC3/TrueHD/MLP/DTS and some functions won't work at all without it.

Note that the OFFICIAL installers have been updated, though. They're still .456, but are different from the previous ones. Just download and see for yourselves.

Upd: The installers say .456, but as steven posted earlier, the about box says .457.

http://www.videohelp.com/software/PotPlayer

is still the best source (for non South Koreans) to get the latest or any older version of PotPlayer you prefer.

And in the list ( http://www.videohelp.com/software/PotPlayer/old-versions#downloadold

PotPlayerSetup64-1.7.456.exe indeed shows up as 1.7.457 in the 'about' screen.

SHA1 for the 'real' 456 (64 Bit setup file) is (better: was):

0ae4cacca58e539d0fb3c92a41b1733f84febf93

SHA1 for 456 aka 457 is:

24d08914273560c3b94024b4fc20ce83294a2b3d

yes good site too get old versions  but i don’t need a old version  i changed the icon with resource hacker back to the old one i read how too at Global Potplayer forum .

456 came out the day before 457 did they dont have a same hash even  just the dev updated it too fix a problem with subtitles but he did not update the installer  just he updated the program. ,

Sometimes the dev updates it and don’t change the version the next day he just changes the date in the about box this time he changed the date and the version he needs  update the installer too stop confusing  people who don’t know this .

The reason he does this is too get bugs out of the x64 version if you use x86 version its best to use betas because they get bug fixes all the time  and the DEV  said it was best too use betas but I switched too x64 because  Hevc and V9 uses less process with it . I  beta tested this app for years  and use to post updates for stable and beta before i retired from uploading in 2011 before this site ever had it on the front page. Video help was posting them even way back then .

The only way too get real support for this app is to join the Korean forum that’s were the dev is  He don’t never read there English forum at  Global Potplayer  only you get help from members there just like video help forum  is helping people with it even before they had a  Daum English forum they did :P
