SB7 Posted December 30, 2016 Share Posted December 30, 2016 Wow, tried a number of different methods and not one will produce an activated 3.0. ( Win7x64) I have been running MBAM2 and MBAE for quite while ( fully activated , with host block) For me KIS2016 and MB3 will not cooperate, even corrupted my profile , after forcing multiple reboots /hanging windows , repeatedly. Only disabling one or the other ( or uninstalling MB3) , allowed proper boots. I have no idea what is so special about my setup , but it's back to MBAM2/MBAE for me. Smoore Posted January 9, 2017 Share Posted January 9, 2017 For NOOBS: The .bat file method will fail unless you change the host file read only mode. The .bat file adds to the host file to prevent the license being deactivated or "blacklisted". The host file is read only or "locked" by default. User must go to Windows\System32\drivers\etc and "show hidden files and folders" to see the "hosts" file. Then right click on the file and in the properties setting, untick the read only box. Click ok & close it. This "unlocks" the hosts file. Now run the .bat file. Add "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" to "Malware Exclusions" to prevent license blacklisting. Do this by copy & paste as Malwarebytes WILL NOT LET YOU select it or see the "etc" folder. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Knightmare Posted January 15, 2017 Share Posted January 15, 2017 My MBAM said that there was a "new" version available but I didn't see anything about it from nsane, filehippo, or MB themselves. Naturally, I just installed the update, thinking maybe it was a hot fix or just that I was getting the update literally the second that it came out. I downloaded/installed the update and when MBAM loaded, it had gone from 3.0.5 to 3.0.4. I'm using the toolbox fix now and I have turned off the automatic component updates and notifications for any "new" versions. Didn't know if anyone else had this issue. It says "starting..." but when I check it again its status is "Off". Edit: After a restart it eventually reverted back to Free edition. Uninstalling it left some files and folders in ProgramData that couldn't be deleted even after restarting the PC. icacls command couldn't reset permissions and I ended up using MBAM-Clean tool. Pete 12 Posted January 23, 2017 Share Posted January 23, 2017 Did a lot of testing lately , with different " bad guy " -hunters , and now Im convinced ; MBAM does NOT protect you ( its only making things worse, especially when using latest 3-version, while 2-version does never find anything at all !).
