Intelligent humanoid robot 'Sanbot' fights crime at airports with facial recognition software The machines can also provide customer service and help airport passengers with their queries Robots are joining the fight against crime by helping catch suspects in airports using cutting edge facial recognition software. Customs personnel input information about wanted criminals into the Chinese made Qihan-Sanbot, so if an offender passes through the airport they can be tracked. The Sanbots are humanoid robots that also offer customer service, chatting to people who need help in terminals. They are equipped to translate 28 languages and answer passengers' questions Robot journalists to start writing news and sports stories for national news agency The robot can be programmed to work in a number of fields, including retail, education, healthcare, hospitality and security. But it comes after robotics expert Noel Sharkey warned humanoid robots will one day 'take over the world' and we won't be able to spot them. Professor Sharkey said androids will soon be completely integrated in society working as shop assistants, bar staff and careworkers. He says they will slowly creep into our lives during the next few decades until we don't even notice they are among us.
