Rudimentary questions
 How/Where different from (1) and (2)

  (1)
      Start-Up TrueImageLauncher.exe
      Select Tools
Select RESCUE MEDIA BUILDER & Make Bootable Disk

  (2)
     Download Bootrable ISO
       For example,
Acronis True Image 2017 Bootable ISO
(posted Tuesday at 06:13 AM by Plexxor)
Make Bootable Disk from above ISO file

After applying the nova-medicin , I suddenly got a new service(??) ,called " Bonjour "  ,it was present in Device Manager on automatic/started !

I deleted this unkown service, and Acronis kept ok .

Anyone who knows more ??

Hello,

serious question - it seems like the group thinks acronis is going or has gone downhill already. Do you guys have any bulletproof alternatives for the PC platform?

I need one that provides/offers/has a BootCD only option (I dont like installing stuff on my computer; I only like using bootcds)

Looks like Acronis or the medicin, installs the Bonjour-service, has something to do with Apple ...............?

For making backups/restoring ,the Boot-CD is all you need , if you want to use the T&D-function you have to install the whole program.

Medicine has nothing to do with Bonjour!

Acronis Devs has included Apple components in the ISO:

AUJLNp4.png

And Bonjour in the installer:

i2vdwiX.png

To avoid installing Bonjour service:

- Extract AcronisTrueImage2017.exe in a folder with 7-Zip

- Delete Bonjour.msi & Bonjour64.msi

- Run AcronisTrueImage.msi

You can also remove it (when installed) via add/remove programs

it's an Apple program. Description:

"Bonjour is a software that comes built-in with Apple's OS X and iOS operating systems and it provides a general method for the applications to discover shared services on a local area network, printer discovery wizard, and IE plug-in for discovering local Web servers.  It allows the users to set up a network without any configuration.

It can also be installed onto computers running Microsoft Windows. It may be included within other software such as iTunes and Safari. The iTunes that might be installed in your uses Bonjour to find shared music, iPhoto to find shared photos, iChat, etc."

It might have been a typo. I suspect there is no key for the iso, this key is for the program you install.

I will say this once and not mention it again. I just feel the need to warn my fellow forum members who are serious about data security.

Don't use this silly program if you are serious about backup imaging and want to have confidence that your data is safe.

Use a reputable application like Macrium Reflect or TeraByte Image For Windows (a.k.a TeraByte Drive Image Backup And Restore Suite).

If you don't believe me, then head on over to Wilders Security (the backup specialists) for opinions on the best backup software.

I will have no more to say on this. Over and out!

Well this seems a full fake release, it's homebrew...

@stig

ps: Paragon is another soft that gives me reliability.

More back-uppers ; Active Bootdisk , snapshot ( Tom Ehlert), Paragon ( Bootdisk), R-Drive ( Bootdisk), I make,once every month, a backup with all these Bootdisks .

Still I prefer Acronis( Bootdisk) , coz its fast and makes reliable images of your complete system, using it from XP ,Win7 and now Win10 and it never failed ..........:D

Only 3,5 minutes for making/restoring system backup of 15GB !

( how much time you lose with complete re-install with software ?)

Make backup before Win-updates ( tip!)..........:D

I used to be  a big promoter of Acronis boot CD/USB for cold/offline disk image backup/restore. Well, no more. Here is my story:

Tested the new Acronis True Image 2017 backup and restore for my Windows 10 LTSB Enterprise install on an SSD drive, using the whole disk backup/restore options. The backup went well, as always: quick, efficient with small disk image size.

However, a test restore of the whole disk turned out to be a disaster. Since I don't do OS image restore often these days, I accidentally ticked the "restore whole disk" option, which automatically selected "restore MBR and first track 0". the restore resulted in a non bootable OS, not surprisingly, since my OS is a UEFI with secure boot system.

I then tried to restore again, with the "Restore MBR and track 0" manually unselected. But since this was no longer considered a "Whole disk restore", I had to manually confirm the correct location for each GPT partitions to restore. Tedious. Upon completion, still non bootable OS.

I am very curious why Acronis still keep that option (Restore MBR and Track 0), no matter the type of your OS/system (MBR vs UEFI Secure boot). Neither Macrium Reflect nor IFW/IFL has that option, while they restore perfectly fine without confusing users with that stupid "restore MRB and track 0" option.

Fortunately I have a disk image made by IFL, which saved my ass this time. Considering this potential pitfall for whole disk restore, I will ditch Acronis, and do my duplicate OS backups with IFL and Macrium Reflect. After all, speed is important, but reliability and bs-free in both backup and restore are more so.

Can you tell what you mean by IFL. Also is Paragon an option to look into while restoring to dissimilar hardware. I want to make a fully updated backup of Win 8.1 which I can restore to dissimilar hardware. Whats your opinion
