NetMarketShare: Windows 10 now on 19% of PCs; still a long way from Windows 7

NetMarketShare's latest numbers are in, and Windows 10 is now on 19.14% of PCs. This is a big improvement from six months ago, when it was at just 11.85%.

Of course, not all usage numbers are created equal. According to StatCounter's numbers from May, Windows 10 recently passed Windows 7, coming in with 28.82% compared to Windows 7's 28.65%.

According to today's NetMarketShare numbers - which are from June - Windows 7 sits at 49.05%, which is a very far cry from Windows 10's usage.

Windows 10 has been steadily gaining adoption since it was introduced last July, but it will likely begin to slow. The offer for a free upgrade will end in just a few days; after that, users will have to pay at least $119 to upgrade to Windows 10.

As far as the rest of desktop operating systems go, Windows 8 and 8.1 still need to combine to defeat Windows XP, which isn't a surprise. Also, Windows Vista sits cozily alongside every version of OS X that's not El Capitan in the "Other" category.

While Windows 10 has a long road ahead before it catches up to 7, it most certainly will. Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, so its usage share can only go up. Source: NetMarketShare

the holdouts on windows 7 won't move to 10 until they have to buy new computers... some win 7 machines have hardware that will not translate well to 10..or the people just do not want to bother with 10 until they replace the current computer they have

Which is kinda stupid considering it's free ATM. Upgrade, revert if you have to and then update again when you feel like it. All the latest advances are coming with 10..
At least now with 10 being the last nobody will be able to say "That Windows 10 was the best, 11 is shit!" The people that are now on 7 probably thought 7 was shit while they were on XP..
No more stupidity like that in future thankfully.
