Microsoft has just released the July 2016 cumulative update for Microsoft Office 2016 insiders, as it wants to test this month’s feature improvements before all users get it in the coming weeks.

Excel and Outlook are the two apps that are getting significant updates this month and you can check the full changelog in the table at the end of the article.

What’s worth knowing, however, is that Excel 2016 now comes with options to publish locally-stored files to PowerBI (if you have a subscription obviously), but also gets improvements to date/time transformations and text manipulations.

Microsoft says that the spreadsheet tool can now “migrate workbooks to a different environment, group two or more clauses for row filtering, and document your transformations within the Query Editor window.”

Outlook 2016 improvements

As far as Outlook 2016 fans are concerned, there are plenty of improvements in this update. First of all, starting with this month’s update, which brings Office to version 16.0.7167.2015, users can add recipients with the @ symbol, so you can use this shortcut anywhere in the body of your email or calendar item to automatically add a contact to the “To” line.

Furthermore, Microsoft is making new changes for Outlook 2016 users who want to manage their appointments easier, but also to organize their holidays or business trips from a single app.

“Ready for your next travel or adventure? Outlook now helps you verify and track reservations with summary cards available in your Inbox and Calendar. It’s also easy to change your hotel and rental car reservations, and you can stay on top of your flights info with Outlook reminders,” the company explains.

And last but not least, Outlook now has a feature suggestion option in File > Feedback > Suggest a feature, while Office 2016 also gets support for Docs.com to easily publish documents on this service.

Keep in mind that all these updates are only available for insiders for the time being, but everyone should be getting them in the coming weeks.

what about the Black theme ?

So far it's only available if you have Office 365 subscription: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Change-the-look-and-feel-of-Office-2016-for-Windows-with-Office-themes-63e65e1c-08d4-4dea-820e-335f54672310?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US&fromAR=1

For Office 2016 users, Dark Gray theme is a good alternative theme :P

It's difficult seeing the 'Font' options using the black theme.
