IsoHunt team start petition to free KAT admin

isohunt-launches-kickass-torrents-mirror

The team that runs IsoHunt, a search engine for torrent files, has launched an unofficial mirror for Kickass Torrents (KAT), the world's largest torrent portal that was shut down yesterday by US authorities.

The site, which is accessible at kickasstorrents.website, was set up today and features an older copy of KAT's database.

The KAT mirror only features a listing of the site's torrents, but not its community, one of the site's strong points, which no other torrent portal had and the thing that set it apart from any other movie and software piracy heaven.

"It’s not perfect but if users need to save and archive something it’s time. We don’t know how long it can last, but at least it’s something," the IsoHunt told VentureBeat.

Authorities arrested KAT admin in Poland, shut down the site

KAT's demise started after US agents began an undercover operation to gather information on the torrent portal's day-to-day operations.

After collecting data on the site's financial transactions and bank accounts, US officials issued an international arrest warrant for KAT's admin, Artem "tirm" Vaulin, 30, of Kharkiv, Ukraine, which Polish authorities arrested yesterday.

US officials also seized KAT's domain names and US and Canadian servers, effectively shutting down the site, to the dismay and collective gasp of people all over the Internet.

Official KAT proxies stopped working after a few hours

The site has been down since yesterday, even if small proxies have continued to work for a while, but have now stopped answering requests altogether.

The shutdown was so effective that even KAT's Dark Web .onion URL had stopped working after a few hours.

In light of KAT's takedown, other torrent and streaming sites like Solarmovie have also announced they will be shutting down as well, scared of a possible prosecution.

Petition to get Vaulin out of jail

Besides putting the KAT mirror up, IsoHunt's team has also created two petitions, with Change.org and the White House, hoping to raise enough signatures to get Vaulin out of jail.

At the time of writing, the Change.org petition had 221 supporters, while the White House petition only 69 signatures (100,000 needed).

Below is the IsoHunt statement that appears the first time you access the KAT unofficial mirror.

This morning the founder of kat.cr was arrested in Poland. It is another attack on freedom of rights of internet users globally. We think it's our duty not to stand aside but to fight back supporting our rights. In the world of regular terrorist attacks where global corporations are flooded with money while millions are dying of diseases and hunger, do you really think that torrents deserve so much attention? Do you really think this fight worth the money and resources spent on it? Do you really think it's the real issue to care of right now? We don’t!

Kat.cr is a website we all know and love, and the world will never be the same without it. That's why before it will come back we’ve made the mirror of Kat.cr with all the torrents we could find. It's not perfect but if you want to save and archive something, now it’s the time! We don't know how long it can last, but at least it's something. We will continue to fight for our freedom and you’re welcome to join us! Sign this petition on Change.org and let everybody know that there are many of us who refuse to be silent.

Our freedom is to share the human right which Artem Vaulin has been providing to millions of users from all over the world. By arresting him our rights are violated.

Thus we want Artem Vaulin to set free and to be discharged!

LOL  like the US govt cares what you think if they did fileshareing  would be legal..  dont this guy got enough money to make bail even? That's going to do about as much good as the one to get  EFF to investigate Microsoft    The only protest  the USA  crawled in a hole about were ones were the whole internet protested  about.. were millions were against it and this was to stop laws from passing . When the US convict you  its up to a jury to decide and there picked about what they dont know about the case . hes not even had a extradition trial yet  . That's up to Poland .not the U.S  hes not even in there hands yet.

ISO hunt made a mirror  like the other scam sites  did to make money from ads. The Guy is in jail and there going to make a few bucks in his name on ads . They proved  what they was back when TPB closed down the ISO hunt are washed up has beens from the past that cant get any hits so they bottom feed off sites when they get closed down.

Nope, all his accounts/assets were seized, he can't access anything.  Eventually they will be divided up amongst his 'victims'.

Once he was arrested and jailed he will sit in jail in Poland until he is extradited.  So if he wants to fight extradition then the DOJ doesn't care, since he is in jail and time spent fighting extradition is not counted as part of his sentence in US courts.  On the other had if he waived extradition and came to the US then time he spent in pre-trial confinement would be credited toward his sentence.  In most cases it is stupid to fight extradition because first you are going to lose eventually and secondly you prolonged your agony.

They been trying to extradite kim dotcom for years he just goes to court and gets it put back off and he dont care its just another year he dont  have to stand trial  . Even in the USA from state to state you can fight it  but it just will end up costing you money  and if you didn't do nothing really bad  its not worth fighting.

Hes can try to fight it if he wants , but if he choose not too they will just extradite him. If he goes to trial  and they want let the USA have him they have too set him free they cant hold him but so long unless they have charges on him in Poland.  Hes facing 20 years in prison so i would try to fight  it.  if he gets convicted he could be in his 50s or 60 before he gets to go home.

It's just a waste of the tax payers money ,When they put the founders of the TPB in prison that was backed by Hollywood too  And TPB  is still up and running . Its been since 2012 and still no extradition for kim dotcom and there's a new mega and talks about a 3rd one and he ever does get to the US  it will take years more  because of safe harbor

laws  to ever get a verdict   . If KAT dont return  2 more sites will take its place.  There is P2P sites in all 4 comers of the world .There's sites in Asia and outer places that  never follow DMCA  and the USA cant touch them . Following DMCA  does no good no way . That law was never meant to be protection  for pirates it was to make them too delete the files and be deterrent  to stop them but a lot good that does peole just switch sites and download it anyways. :P

Since  the Polish Police  cant say nothing to the public since its a ongoing investigation  anything you say that may be done  to him  is purely  speculation  . This is strange it was more posted in the mainstream press to piss  the p2p scene  off than  what really matters what they going to do too him is being kept top secret . We want even know what happens unless they let him lose or after hes already In the USA  . :)
