Windows 10 version of Paint app

We've already told you that Microsoft is working on bringing classic Windows apps in the Windows Store as part of Project Centennial, and it turns out that, in addition to WordPad and a few others, Paint is also on the list of programs getting a Windows 10 version.

What’s more, the Windows 10 version of Paint has already made it to the store, and as MSPU writes, it provides pretty much the same functionality as the classic program.

Microsoft has published the app in the store under the name of “Newcastle,” and the company has included a description of the Newcastle football club, which is kind of unexpected, but it somehow makes sense, given the fact that this is still work in progress.

As you can see in the screenshots here, the Paint app looks nothing more than like a modern version of the classic program, so you get the same features packed in a more eye-candy interface. Most likely, the app is fully optimized for the touch and can work on all Windows 10 devices, as the goal here is to make it universal and offer support for both PCs and smartphones.

The end of the classic Paint app?

Without a doubt, seeing a Windows 10 version of Paint going live in the store raises more question regarding the future of the Win32 version that’s already available on the desktop.

The plan here might be to remove the desktop version in order to move the focus on store apps, as Microsoft wants to use its classic Win32 apps as pioneers of Project Centennial. This allows apps to be offered through the store and benefit from all improvements brought by universal apps, including auto-updating through the store.

The Paint app could be bundled into the Anniversary Update that’s due in the summer, but it goes without saying that this report shouldn't be taken for granted until Microsoft itself confirms or denies this information. The Anniversary Update should land in July, so we shouldn’t wait too long to find out about the company’s plans.

I just hate it when there are absolutely no pictures on an article, especially ones like this. Is it expensive or something?

yes, the source has pictures, why not here?

thank you very much Batu. sadly i see this in many threads, or even worse: a bare link to the source. with nothing but a title.

Different strokes for different folks.  No matter what is posted I briefly scan the first couple of sentences and if it sounds interesting I go to the source.  Why clutter the forum up with unneeded images?  A title and source should be enough to generate attention/interest in a topic that makes it worth clicking on the link.  If a person can't do this then maybe they really aren't interested in it.  How about I read the article and just post a general topic "I read about Windows 10 version of classic paint for you."  Now you won't have to click any links or complain because someone didn't put pictures with the article.

heyyahblah

Again "fully optimized for the touch" ....

What about users with multiple setups or users using 4K TV's as monitors these days? I'm not smearing dirty fingers all over a 27" inch gaming screen, are you insane?

Another classic example of them catering again to TOUCH INTERFACE crap. Might as well make a standalone version of W10 for touch. Or just use W10 mobile for touch O/S. This is horseshit.

I'm leaving the default W32 application. Sick of this BS O/S.

are you saying it is better to have lower quality posts? seriously?

the worst harm twitter has caused is convincing people they can convey any idea within 150 keystrokes.

forums have become a platform where you can share almost any kind of content, and style it as much as you want. this is to promote "higher quality", more (multimedia) rich posts.

so in short, in today's web 2.0, yes, you can choose to ignore all that and post a laconic sentence ...but don't expect anyone to be impressed by it.

I guess I won't come to warm up to, or appreciate any of these modern apps until I get a touch-friendly device... or maybe the reason I am not warming up to them is their overall appearances, with solid-colored bars, and swipe-styled menus, and all that. I don't know.

More importantly though, what distinguishes this from Fresh Paint?
