[Transparency] PhotoImpact or Adobe PhotoShop

Hello gang.

I have a problem.

I created a transparent image that saves itself when viewed with a white background.

For the life of me I cannot understand why it has done this, apart from looking at layers.

I selected in PhotoImpact transparent, but still saves the same, white background.

Same in Adobe Photoshop.

I have followed many on-line tutorials to correct this but cannot.

Here is problem.

All I want to do is remove white background and when added to a page blends in background from page.

Thanks in advance!

afaik, ulead photoimpact does not support saving objects with transparency.
alternatively, you can do everything in photoshop, or try to save for video.
something like this: file - save - more save options - save for video.
image should be saved with alpha channel, if not mistaken

in photoshop it's simple: from below is necessary to create a transparent layer-background
and in the upper layers to insert objects

But the file will need to save in .png format.

make sure you are saving as 24bit png. jpg or bmp do not have transparency.

...and if it's giving you too much trouble, just use paint++

no complicated menus or options, straight to the point

PhotoImpact does save transparent .png, .gif's et cetera.

I first did it using Ulead PhotoImpact four (4) fourteen (14) years plus ago.

I am now using PhotoImpact thirteen (13) and last month I saved a transparent header, but, I cannot remember how it was done.

I have tried a work through from here: http://bearmistress.com/gif11.html

Still can't get it to work.

I am using PhotoImpact for like 8 years (X3 now, it still rocks! - shame on Corel that they bought Ulead and stopped development immediately...), had no problem with saving transparent png's or gifs at all...

I can try it for you if you can upload the source files somewhere. By the way, I do it this way:

1. File -> New -> New Image -> Canvas: Transparent, size any
2. I put on the images and texts, nothing special

3. File -> Save as -> PNG -> Options -> Preset: True color, no interlace, no filter, no soft, default settings

4. voila, it just Works

Created a Quick draft in like 1 min, this is how it shows for me:

(you can download the original .UFO project file of mine from here)

Hello thanks for the response.

I will link you with the .ufo I created.

Maybe have a look and turn it to a transparent image.

I have done it before, not used PhotoImpact for a few months so forgot I find it better than adobe PhotoShop.

Here is the link:

Much appreciated to find someone that likes PhotoImpact with a passion

@LeeSmithG: The file you posted is your own creation. sharecode is not necessary in this case.

Feel free to share the link as is.

btw. i didn't used photoimpact since it was owned by corel! but there are plenty of programs whitch can save transparency in png or psd format

psd format is better than png cause it preserves a lot of image infos and properties

I have a tip, if it is the evening and it's not to do with saving a life, sleep on it.

I did and I awoke with many ideas.

So I took my transparent .png and added it to the header in artisteer.

I saw a white background, so I highlighted the image clicked on background and saw it was white and clicked the transparent link in colours and it now is transparent.

The clue was creating a .html file with notepad, changing the background to green and guess what? Yes you guessed it the .png is transparent.

Thanks for every ones help, problem solved.

Strange, I just opened the .ufo file you posted, saved with the png options I wrote above, and its already transparent out-of-the-box. Dunno what is different on your side, maybe the saving options, did you checked them?

So they should be the following:

sshot_1.png

Btw good to see you solved it with this workaround :)

Yes it is transparent, I saved it that way.

But my last post but this one explains why when I put it on web page in Artisteer, it shows with white background.

It is by default they show a white background.

I then click image and changed background to transparent, then the .png blended in to the background.

See here: http://www.leybournecc.pe.hu/

I realised this when I created a html with notepad and added green background then the header.
