Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White dead at 74

. "Maurice was the guiding force behind the group's success and helped create hit songs such as 'Shining Star,' 'September,' 'After The Love Has Gone,' and so many memorable others. His unerring instincts as a musician and showman helped propel the band to international stardom, influencing countless fellow musicians in the process. While he will be greatly missed, Maurice's contributions to music will live on. We offer our condolences to his family, friends and creative collaborators."

Earth, Wind & Fire got their name from drummer and founding member Maurice White's astrological sign. White's sign is Sagittarius, which has the primary elemental quality of Fire and the seasonal qualities of Earth and Air. "Earth, Air & Fire" didn't sound right, so "Air" became "Wind." White was previously in a band signed to Capitol Records called Salty Peppers; Maurice developed an interest in astrology and Egyptology while he was touring the world with them.

[Some people may wonder why I chose this Vid, well it's for the man's beautiful smile and the fun he was having and the way I choose to remember him, thank you.]
