Windows 7 Update Problem

Recommended Posts

I had a problem that after installation Windows 7 was continuously searching for updates and was getting no where. Also Due to the Windows Update service I was facing high RAM problems. Gladly found a solution. I am sharing this method which I read from https://forums.techguy.org/threads/windows-update-wont-finish.1164362/. All credits go to them.

For me the high RAM uasge became normal when I installed WindowsUpdateAgent 7.6. After installing KB3112343 the windows update did its magic.

The method is

Windows update is kinda broken at the moment.

You need to manually install several updates before Windows Update works properly.

I found a solution on the WSUS Offline forums last month once I came across this issue and if the searching for updates never finishes on several new installs of Windows 7, it seems to affect online Windows Updates, the unofficial Offline WSUS, and WSUS servers.

Install these in order and reboot as requested. Use only the matching 32-bit or 64-bit version for your system.

This is taken from WSUS Offline Forums: http://forums.wsusoffline.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5366

I also found that you need restart the Windows Update Service before running the patches or they get hung up searching as well.

windows agent is the first update that installs itself right after first logon and if you don't install some update manually, windows is checking for updates will stuck forever and ever. Maybe is new micro$oft's  trick :P

I was checking for updates and it was stuck. Try it in vm on fresh MSDN copy and you will notice it

Windows update from a fresh Windows 7 install is really slow, almost endless. Probably it's a new "trick" to induce people to update to 10. Sure.

just grab updates the first time using WSUS offline updates and install them. After installing those next check for updates will be as usual
