Manjaro Linux

On the last day of November, the developers of the Manjaro Linux operating system have announced the release of a new stable update for the Manjaro Linux 15.09 (Bellatrix) operating system.

The last stable update for Manjaro Linux 15.09 was published a week ago, and, at the moment in time, the developers announced that they will no longer release weekly updates for the Arch Linux-based computer operating system. Well, it looks to us like that didn't last long, as the Manjaro Update 2015-11-30 (stable) is now live in the default software repositories for all Manjaro Linux users.

One of the most important changes implemented in the new Manjaro Linux update is that the recently released X.Org Server 1.18.0 display server has been blocked from upgrading so that users of AMD Radeon graphics cards can use the operating system. Therefore, Manjaro Linux 15.09 still ships with X.Org Server 1.17.x, but it now includes updated AMD and Nvidia video drivers.

"Archlinux decided to go with Xorg-Server 1.18.0 even with the fact that Catalyst doesn’t support that server yet. Therefor we used once more our overlay feature which blocks that series from updating. However I already updated some drivers against the 1.17 series of the Xorg-Server, including the latest Nvidia drivers," said Philip Müller on behalf of the Manjaro Development Team.

Linux kernel 4.4 and Wine 1.8

Among other interesting changes brought by Manjaro Update 2015-11-30 (stable), we can notice initial support for the Linux 4.4 kernel (the second Release Candidate build has been included, but without ZFS support), the Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client was updated to version 38.4.0, the first Release Candidate build of Wine 1.8 was included, and the 0 A.D. Alpha 19 ancient warfare game has been added.

The Cinnamon and Deepin editions of Manjaro Linux 15.09 received many updates in the week that just passed, and they now use even more packages from the upstream Arch Linux software repositories, which have been syncronized with Manjaro Linux on November 28, 2015, at 11:08:00 Central European Time (CET). All Manjaro Linux users are urged to update their installations as soon as possible.
