Pirates Can Now Rip 4K Content From Netflix and Amazon

Pirates have found a new loophole that allows them to copy 4k movies and TV-shows from Netflix and Amazon. Up until recently these high quality 4K resolution rips were nonexistent, but a flurry of new releases from various groups show that something has changed.

While the average consumer is generally not equipped to play 4K content on their TV or computer, many video geeks are looking forward to every new release.

Thus far the physical offerings have been limited to adult content mostly, with just a handful of mainstream productions. However, with the adoption of a Blu-Ray standard for Ultra High Definition video more releases will follow soon.

4K streaming releases have been available for a while already though, with Netflix and Amazon as the two key vendors in this market.

These online streams were always well protected against pirates. The High-Bandwidth Digital Copy Protection (HDCP) version 2.2 or higher is still believed to be secure today, but there are signs that pirates have found a way to bypass the protection.

Earlier this year the first 4K Netflix leak surfaced. After that it went quiet. However, a few days ago something changed, as many more releases started to appear online.

TorrentFreak spoke to a release group insider who confirmed that this is a significant change.

“Many groups started releasing 4K rips recently and they are working perfectly. I expect that 4K resolution releases will become more popular now,” TorrentFreak was told.

The new 4K leaks come from both Netflix and Amazon, suggesting that there’s a general loophole that allows pirates to circumvent the copy protection on both services.

Up until recently this was impossible to do. There were a handful of upscaled releases floating around with a lot of pixelation and low bitrates, but these don’t come close to real 4K.

The new releases are true 4K and include Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle as well as the recent pilots Edge, Good Girls Revolt, Highston, One Mississippi
and Patriot.

Another series of high-profile 4K leaks that came out this week are of Netflix’s Jessica Jones. As with the other rips the file-sizes are much larger than traditional HD-releases, well over 10 gigabytes for a single episode.

Netflix’ Jessica Jones 4k leaks

The media info for one of the Jessica Jones leaks show that it’s 4K, at a 32.5 Mbps bitrate. Unfortunately, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the video quality is always exceptional.

“For example for Marvel’s Jessica Jones new TV series from Netflix the 4K captures look bad, because the master from Netflix is probably bad,” we were told by an insider.

Downloading a 4K release from Amazon or Netflix and getting a pirated copy out is not something that’s easily done. The original rips are often well over 100 gigabytes in size. Still, many groups are jumping on the 4K bandwagon.

The main question that remains is how the groups are able to circumvent the copy protection. Our source says that Amazon’s Fire TV and Roku 4K are likely sources, as they may not be as well protected as some believe.

Amazon’s Fire TV uses the weaker HDCP 1.4b protection and 23.976 frames/s, which only supports Amazon 4K releases and not Netflix.

Roku recently released their new streaming player with 4K support and native refresh rate switching, which can play Netflix’s 4K library. It arrived in stores early November, just before the 23.976 frames/s 4k rips started coming out.

Whatever the source is, the stream of new releases is unprecedented and marks the start of a new era of high quality video releases.

In recent years many people have been downloading higher quality rips already, but it will probably take a few years before 4K becomes the new standard. Overall, however, pirating video geeks will be happy with the news.

The scene and more trusted p2p groups have been ripping 1080p for these quite awhile and it never looks as good as if it was a itunes download or blu-ray . that’s why p2p calls Itunes WEB-DL and NF and AM WEB-Rips . You cant capture a stream off the net or TV and it look as good as a real source . Most HDTV is capped at 1080i high bitrates and it don’t never look as good as lower bitrate Itunes . So 4k will never look that good unless you have a real source.

WEBRips are inferior to HQ encodes they don’t download these they just capture them and they been doing it for 4 or 5 years now so author don’t know nothing about encoding. When these 1st became popular was back when House of Cards season 1 came out P2P and the scene has been doing these every since Netfilx done TV shows 2013 but people were capping from netfilx way before this.

Kodi has had 4k capibility for a while now. Add record capiblity to it, setup your acct in addon, start recording and bam go to the next one, no need to wait for it to finish. Kodi is waiting on hardware to catch up now. They are very big files though, thats the down side. If no 4k tv then why do it, its not really worth it to me. Thought I would share some insight into this from Kodi stand point. :)

It is doable by an hdmi capture card and an hdmi splitter who has a "default" of not letting the hdcp lock passing thru, they were sold and removed from the market ... but personally i dont use more than 1080p.

Not interested to the shear size of the files 10 gigs and more up to 50 gigs, ac3 sound etc... and finally i dont need to convert all my stuff to 4k, maybe in a year ?

4k is over rated anyway...why do I need to see a person nose hairs? lmao! I have no use for 4k videos. If you can afford a 4k tv then you have no issues buying a 4k movie, simple as that. Until apps can compress the size down like what some apps do for bluray, 4k isnt feasable. This is my opinion, take or leave it. lol Most dont have the bandwidth for 4k anyways so why bother.

Lets add 4k and charge 3 grand for a TV. lol

I have buffering issues with a Neflix low-quality stream. So, I am a long way from having the bandwidth necessary to handle 4k streams. Just wondering, do these people have gigabyte service?

Always Release groups figure out away around (HDCP) every version has been cracked every since 2013 there's no demand for 4k yet it takes so long to upload and its too large to download for one tv show via p2p or file host it needs to be highly compressed with x265 HEVC to save on bandwidth . Another thing Netfilx don’t allow people who watch it trough computers to stream 4k Only you can stream it via 4K TV .So the only people they hurt with (HDCP) was Netfilx costumers . Most Pirates don’t want no 4k no ways and release groups can still capture it . :P

Agreed. :)

I have an android box that does 4k but really its overrated. Not worth the cost to buy a 4k tv to see actors nose hairs. lol I do like the new designs (curve design) but other then that, they can keep all the bells and whistles.

Good news for some folks Batu69.

For us less skilled & knowledgeable folks...

The main question that remains is how the groups are able to circumvent the copy protection.

This is the only question, really.

For folks with the right equipment to view it, the much higher res stuff must be great - but for folks with just a regular screen it would be great if there was a way to grab downloads from these sites for convenient viewing anytime with or without internet.

I've posted this question before once or twice and the only answer in existence (supposedly ??) is to screen the shows in real-time and screen-capture them.

Maybe for someone with several extra PCs and a really robust connection that would be good - but here again, with just a single PC to do everything that is not a practical way to get shows to watch later.

If that is the only way to get them - it remains better just to do DVD rips or something like that.

Thanks.

See the industry is in a war about should they keep the current H264 as the standard or should it be replaced with H265 .Both sides have valid points the side with H264 says most every thing is compatible with H264 already and if 4K never sells good it would never be worth the money. The People behind H265 says its would save on bandwidth because so much more compressible . So unless both sides can agree always it will be H264 standard. And example of new teach not doing good was VHS tapes VS Laser Disc . Laser Disc were better than tapes but you had to buy new stuff to watch them etc so they never sold many and they went away fast while VCR Tapes Done good for many years .Always new teach don’t replace old in order for it to replace it has to be much better like the DVD was . 1080p vs 4k is not that big of improvement more of a money waster than anything so it could become obsolete like Laser Disc did back in the 80s.

One PC is fine to watch HD videos I watch 720p and 1080p all the time DVDRips really went out long ago if you have a decent processor it don’t have to be great and a 1080p monitor .

As far as 4K the problem is If you buy netfilx you cant stream them 4k ones trough pc you need to hook netfilx up trough a TV . But pirated copies of 4k all you need is a decent processor and a 4k monitor But the fact remains unless you watch only porn there’s no 4k pirated copies to watch yet that’s leaked .(one or two don’t count) So its not even worth investing in. :P

Unless I find a pot of gold by my front door it is unlikely that I'll get to see any of this hi-def stuff.

What I really want is to just be able to rip, or download streams from someplace like netflix.

We usually watch movies on the TV from DVDs at bed times - and tend to fall asleep part way through.

Then we start from where we last remember the next night if we can.

If I could grab streams of whole shows, then they could easily be re-started again & again until the shows are 100% seen.

The PC screen is only useful if I want to sit in my chair & watch a whole show - but that almost never happens 'cuz I cannot sit that long;

Besides movies are more fun when they are shared & that's why they get watched here at bedtime.

All this 720 - 1080 - 4k stuff isn't really useful to us old folks - that all is for younger folks with sharp eyesight.

VHS quality is good enough for these old eyes and so long as the sound is cranked loud enough for the old ears to make out the words - it's all good !!

Thanks.

You might want to look into Kodi but like steven said, unless 4k tv or monitor its overkill. You have to have the hardware to support such things. I really dont expect 4k to take over since I agree with the h265. This is only my opinion so to those that like 4k, time will tell in the end.

Note: Let me say this, Kodi software isnt associated with unsupported addons that some devs make for kodi which would be considered questionable. Like the record feature is a unsupported addon but it does work with it once setup. It grabs the stream from the built in kodi player instead of stream directly.

The best thing about 4k is this 4k masters Blu-Ray of old movies look much better than 1080p masters do but only for old movies that came with poor quality but if you’re a Pirate none of this matters because the scene and p2p have been encoding these 4k masters down to any size you want. :)

But 4K WEBRip done off a TV is not going look as good as when the 4k and 1080p Blu-Ray masters form netfilx come out . Always TV are released 2 times once as Pre Retail and then Retail witch is best. Also now days most movies are released 3 or 4 times Pre Retail , Itunes download, then Retail Blu-ray. But movies done in the 21st century there's not much quality improvement because 1080p masters were already really nice . Every now and then you may find one you would like to replace though.

Most new hdtv's have in settings to control flow which is nice for old movies. I use it on my TV to improve quality. I love the three stooges. Miss the old slap stick comedy...those were the days. Take care and have a good day/evening depending on where in the world all of you live. Back to the game on tv. :)

If I want to figure out how to crack it I could like you said theres not a demand for it yet. WIth my internet connection I could download it my upload isnt that fast cant upload it. I can get a fourk monitor and stream Im not paying to see ultra HD Im only paying for regular HD. Im not get a fourk monitor yet Im going to standby for them to drop in price and then go on sale cost one thousand dollars for a fourk monitor right now I checked yesterday.
