Cortana will become a key part of our lives, it claims

Cortana’s already on Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobile smartphones and Windows 10 PCs, but Microsoft’s still working at full speed to further improve it, so future updates are expected to make it an even more personal digital assistant.

Redmond’s intention is to make Cortana a key part of our lives and replace some of the traditional things that we do on our computers, including searching.

Bing is Cortana’s heart and soul, besides being Microsoft’s own search engine that’s also powering Apple’s personal assistant Siri. This is why Redmond-based tech giant wants to improve it to an extent where it’ll be able to do many more things for computer users. Such as searching the web in the most effective way, that is.

At this point, Cortana is already able to look online for information, but Microsoft says that speech recognition is what the company’s trying to significantly improve right now in order not only to better work in English but also to offer support for more languages.

Speech recognition for the win

Rik van der Kooi, Microsoft’s Corporate VP of advertiser and publisher solutions, has said at Bing Ads Next that speech recognition in general and Cortana in particular are going to change the way we search the web for information.

“Speech recognition is going to transform how we search,” he insisted, according to SEL. “If we make it useful, people will want that app wherever they go.”

Indeed, Microsoft’s pushing for Cortana very hard, making it available not only on more devices but also in more countries, with improved support for new languages and features to perform more tasks.

So if you were thinking that walking down the street and talking on your phone using the speaker was weird, just wait till someone passes by speaking to their personal assistant and giving voice commands to organize their schedule. Microsoft says this is going to happen very soon, with Windows 10 to be the main catalyst for the change.
