One of the changes included in Windows 10 build 10565, which is the latest build released by Microsoft to fast ring users, is the addition of new device icons supposed to make the operating system as a whole look and feel fresh.

Long-time Windows 10 testers definitely remember that icons were a serious problem for Microsoft in earlier builds of the operating system, as the company experimented with several designs before sticking to the current one.

Basically, the icon pack that Microsoft used in Windows 10 build 9926 was the one that attracted the most criticism, especially because Redmond tried to go for a much cleaner and simpler approach supposed to continue the minimalistic take on the OS itself.

Since then, the software giant has experimented with several icon refreshes and has provided testers with small redesigns here and there, but Windows 10 build 10565 brings one of the biggest changes in this regard.

New icons in Device Manager

For this build, Microsoft spent more time redesigning device icons, and you can see them all in the Device Manager on your Windows 10 PC.

At the same time, the Registry Editor also has a new icon, but this might not come as a big surprise for Microsoft enthusiasts because the same designs have already been spotted in the leaked Windows 10 builds that have reached the web lately.

For the moment, these new icons are only part of the Windows Insider builds, but depending on the feedback that the company receives in the next few weeks, it can make a better decision on whether to release them to RTM users or not.

A major Windows 10 update is coming in November, sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans have said, so this is the moment when the new icon pack could also be implemented for stable users. Microsoft is yet to confirm this, but in the meantime, anyone can try out the new icons by installing build 10565.
