Some devices will have to wait longer though

Microsoft has just confirmed that the official release of the new Windows 10 Mobile operating system would begin in December, but those who cannot wait any longer for it can always purchase the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, both of which already come with the new platform.

In a comment on Facebook that was spotted by WinBeta, the Microsoft Lumia team explained that the “Windows 10 rollout” will begin in December, which means that only if you're very, very lucky you can get the operating system before Christmas.

Otherwise, depending on how fast carrier testing goes, you might have to wait until 2016 to get it, which is the worst news someone with a Windows Phone who wants to upgrade as soon as possible can get.

“Windows 10 is available on PCs and tablets now, and while Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL will ship with windows 10 for phones, broad availability of Windows 10 on other devices, including mobile phones, will begin rolling out in December,” a message posted by the Microsoft Lumia account reads.

Join the Windows Insider program

There's a second solution, though. Windows Insiders will most likely get the RTM version of Windows 10 Mobile ahead of everyone else and this could happen sometime in November, so if you don't wait to any so longer to get the final tidbits, enrolling in the program might be a choice.

And yet, it's worth knowing that the Windows Insider program is only aimed at those who have the time and know-how to find and report bugs in the operating system, so performance issues and other problems are very likely to be experience. So think twice before doing that.

As you probably know already, Windows 10 Mobile will be a free upgrade for all devices running Windows Phone right now, but how fast you get it depends on carrier testing. Firmware updates released in the past, such as Denim, proved us that the wait can be painfully long, so let's just hope that the rollout takes place faster this time.
