Overlord anime the review

Overlord follows in the steps of the likes of sword art online, no game no life, and accel world.

if you haven't caught on yet, those are all virtual reality mmo anime genre. but with Overlord it's with a twist.

Essentially your this one player who is a player killer type, who thrives on playing the villain npc in a vrmmorpg. then suddenly you get thrown into this whole new world and start playing your role from the game but for reals this time.....

This is a 13 episode for this series, with no clear indication whether there will be a 2nd season or not. SAO by the way had double the number of episodes for season 1.... so lets get that out of the way.

Short story

Due to the pacing of the anime which is such a slow crawl, though still probably better than watching dragon ball which is even more ridiculously slow; it makes you wonder whether you should even acknowledge the existence of this anime which feels a lot like a tease to be honest.

despite the slow crawl, i still think it's a good anime, even though it's a watered down version compared to the manga, and more so against the light novel. So don't be surprised when the purists complain that the anime could have been better had they refrained from reducing content from the original ..... it's basically what happened to Berserk animes original series release (missing elves anyone ? lel...)

Beyond this is too big a spoiler... refer to the spoiler if you don't mind :P

episode 1 is pretty much an intro.

episode 2, things start becoming clearer what this anime is all about. then you realize, this might be interesting.

episodes 3 to 11, during this timeline, it becomes a crawl especially in the later episodes, with the story hardly progressing much as scenes get dragged on.

at this rate, you can already imagine what episodes 12 and 13 is going to be about due to this drag, as you wouldn't expect a big change in story beyond what their covering right now :{

By the way though i said the main character and his allies are evil, in some ways he isn't that bad. He can be quite kind to those he likes or respects. And may even do a kind deed without expecting a reward thanks to the influence of his former GM who did a kindness to him in the past.

But neither is Lord Ainz a mother theresa. He stands idly by while his subordinates (who greatly despise the human race) do all sorts of things, whether it be murder, rape, torture...... (even Ainz dabbled in torture himself) without being remorseful about it. This is why this is not your typical good guy main character :}

Anyway if i had to sum up what this anime was about using a picture, then this would be it

what is refreshing about overlord, is that this time around, the main character is a PK type, using a non human character (or more accurately Heteromorphic Race). Finally the villains and the monsters have a vrmmorpg anime to root for ;D

So anyway check it out if you haven't already. horriblesub releases is recommended ^^
