Microsoft Translator provides translations whenever and wherever you need them. Translator is available in a number of apps for smartwatches, phones, tablets, and PCs. It is also integrated into a number of products such as Microsoft Office and Skype Translator.

To make translation even more convenient, the Cortana team has launched native translation support to Windows 10 in its US and Chinese editions.*

Cortana, with the help of Microsoft Translator, places powerful translation technology at your fingertips by instantly translating words, phrases, and sentences from English or Chinese (depending on your edition) to almost 40 languages.

There are a couple different ways to use Cortana's translation capabilities. First, you can simply say "Hey Cortana," followed by the word or phrase you want translated, for instance:

"Hey Cortana, translate where is the nearest taxi stand in French?"

"Hey Cortana, how to say where is the closest grocery store in Spanish?"

You can, of course, also just type directly your request in the taskbar, for example, "Translate what is the nearest 5 star hotel to German"... although this admittedly takes some of the speech (and fun) out of using the personal digital assistant.

To edit the translation, hear it with text-to-speech, or share it with a friend just click on "Open Translator" to navigate to the
Microsoft Translator landing page on Bing.

Want to know if Cortana can translate in the language you need? Here is a list of all of the languages you can translate to:

Bulgarian
Catalan
Chinese (Simplified)
Czech
Danish
Dutch
English
Estonian
Farsi
Finnish
French
German
Greek
Hebrew
Hindi
Hungarian
Indonesian
Italian
Japanese
Klingon (pIqaD)
Korean
Latvian
Malay
Maltese
Polish
Portuguese
Romanian
Russian
Slovak
Slovenian
Spanish
Swedish
Thai
Turkish
Ukrainian
Urdu
Vietnamese
Welsh

Sometimes, if Cortana misunderstands you or does not have the Translation, the assistant opens up a web page after performing a web search for it.

Hopefully next time you want to know the translation of a word or phrase in a specific language, Cortana will lend you a hand. All you have to do is ask!

Do you need translation of signs and menus, or do you need translation support when you are not connected to the web? Try out the Microsoft Translator apps for
Windows Phone and Windows PC that lets you more finely tune your translation, and include camera translation, offline translation, and more!

For more Windows 10 resources, don't forget to check out the Windows 10 help, tips, and tricks page. Or if you have any questions, you can always post to Windows 10 Forums at Windows Central for more help.

Apps Powered by Microsoft Translator:

*Cortana is also available in Windows Phone 8.1 in China. More versions of Windows 10 to be supported in the near future.

Microsoft's translator isnt as good as google's translator. If there is a setting you can change to make cortana use google search engine instead that would be very nice..

Apologies to M$, whoretana or spytana whatever you wish to call her, has been disabled by group policy in W10 to prevent her from talking to M$. With the help of Ultimate Windows Tweaker or ShutUp10. No need for a personal spying assistant. My computer already sends enough information to Bill Gates about what I do on my operating system, don't need Cortana to add more. I love having her disabled via group policy.

1st off Bill Gates dont own Microsoft anymore and has not for years . Satya Nadella does so all your info goes to her

But I agree with the part about spytana the BonziBuddy of the 21st century. I uninstalled this spyware crap If i want use a translator software I install a add-on in Cyberfox witch can translate the page of the sites i need . Or i just use QTranslate witch has many translate engines Bing , Google , Babylon etc. Cortana service is not even available in countries yet because she cant even speak you're language or dont understand you're accent so this article sounds like more Microsoft propaganda to promote there spyware too me. :P

You better disable siri on your iphone and google now on your android they are spyware to Its crazy how much information they collect and people dont care and dont realise it seriously wake up:

http://blog.laptopmag.com/siri-vs-cortana-vs-google-now

You can uninstall and block all you want and data is going to be sent why waste your time removing hallf the operating system when its not going to fully do what you want it to do. Your being spied on no matter what by the nsa I wonder if there is a registry hack or update you can uninstall to stop the nsa from eavesdropping. The nsa have collected phone call meta data hell they have information on the phone call you just ended and if you talked about piracy at all they can red flag it and send it to markmonitor or anyone no one has proof of this and its speculation or complete conjectures. Like stevethirtysix posted in a different thread the system file called ADAVPI.dll located in c:\windows\Systemthirtytwo in every version of windows since windows xp? includes a key labeled nsakey and at the microsoft presentation they were asked and didnt deny it and said they cant say anything else. The nsa didnt make a operating system that they want a billion users to buy by this date and unfortunately they do have a get outta jail free card. Im concerned about the nsa alot compared to microsoft (I know I sound like a fanboy of microsoft Im not just connecting the dots I see that everybody else is missing..

well sort of look at the difference between owning and running...bill gates is retired form Microsoft and is still a major share holder... sayta nadella just runs the day to day... and most likely has lots of shares too.... no one person owns MS

edit bill gates is selling off all his ms stock and has a 4 year plan to divest himself of all ms stocks

Actually the person who owns the most of the Stock now is Former CEO Steve Ballmer.

Satya Nadella Runs Microsoft now though and most likely will have the most stock sooner or latter since shes making the big bucks .
