Reject Windows 10 and Switch to GNU/Linux Instead, Says Free Software Foundation

Users are urged to use a GNU/Linux operating system

The Free Software Foundation published a very interesting statement where it urges computer users around the world to reject Microsoft's newly released Windows 10 operating system and embrace the world of free software by installing a Linux distro.

To be honest, this is a pretty bold statement from FSF (Free Software Foundation), as no one can tell anyone what to do in this life. Users are free to use whatever they want, whenever they want. So, if they want to try Windows 10 they can do that, until they found out themselves that it is not worthy of the attention.

Moving to a GNU/Linux operating system could be the perfect solution for many people, especially because it offers open-source software, giving users the freedom they need to modify that software and adjust it to their needs, but that might not be for everyone and that's the truth.

"The Free Software Foundation urges everyone to reject Windows 10 and join us in the world of free software. Like all proprietary software, Windows 10 puts those that use it under the thumb of its owner. Free software like the GNU/Linux operating system treats users as equals and gives them control over their digital lives," reads the statement.

Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, BSD, Solaris: the choice is yours!

In the statement, Free Software Foundation accuses Microsoft for using "draconian laws" to keep users away from the core of the Windows operating system, stating that "Because it is fundamentally insecure and scoffs at privacy, Windows is an open window onto you."

Computer users around the world are instructed by the Free Software Foundation to use a GNU/Linux operating system and not upgrade to Windows 10. Softpedia hosts over 2.000 Linux distributions, so if you decide to give Linux a try, we recommend visiting our dedicated, up-to-date section.

If not, you are free to use whatever computer operating system you want, including Mac OS X, BSD, Solaris, Windows, etc. Remember, the choice is always yours. How you decide what to do when to do it is up to you!

Could you imagine how much it would cost the workforce witch makes up 45% of the pc market to teach there employes something they never used? And the big pc vendor's only make windows and mac . The business world will have to buy new pcs again by the time windows 7 dies anyways and they will all have some build of windows 10 on them already why would they install another o/s on them and pay extra to train the workforce/?.By the time windows 7 dies and business switches over to windows 10 most everyone will have tired windows 10 at home by then.

There's other problems to I tired Linux before its not bad but it takes you back to the days of dos windows are ahead of the game . Some stuff will run on Linux only if you use wine and some dont work at all . Some of my favorite software is only for windows .Windows 8 was a step back in technology because they took away old ideas and replaced them with even older ones. But now there moving forward again. with windows 10.

In order for Linux to ever become poplar for anyone besides pure computer geeks .

1. they would have to overhaul it and make it so easy a noob could understand it.

2. Pack it full of great new features

3. get shareware and many freeware vendors aboard because most stuff for Linux is (Open source)

4. get game makers on board.

5. If all the above was done then PC vendors may would get aboard

But who is going to make a great O/S that's going be free in the end ? In one year windows 10 will not be free and in 2 to 4 years if no windows 11 you have to pay for upgrades to get new features unless you try to pirate it . :)

yea..so they would have to make it look, feel and actually be windows 10

no thanks. linux has a niche market and will never appeal to the general public.

I use Linux every time windows blows up or windows is full of hidden rootkits and I have to get them out before changing all my passwords.

Linux does have its uses - I use Ubuntu for PayPal, online shopping & internet banking. Though I have antivirus & anti-malware installed, I simply don't trust pirated Windows for financial uses.

if linux was as good as the very few claim ...it would by now have claimed 99 9% of the microsoft and apple market...there is one reason and only one reason why it has not... it ain't that easy to use and hardly anything big companies want to use will run on it...why would the business world pay billions of dollars to run windows if they could run Linux for free...or the average home user pay for or go the trouble to pirate windows if a free Linux was so easily able to be used

That's the paradox:

-Although FREE, Linux is used by only ~ 2% on a global scale.

-By far, users prefer Windows,

which is not FREE,

due to user-Friendliness.

Used Linux for over 6 months — 4 of those precious months were wasted just on hacking the OS in getting some essential 3rd party apps. & programs to work.

Every person who whines about his OS, should be encouraged to use Linux over a protracted period of time — nothing kicks sense into a non-comprehending mutt . . . . . . . . . . . . like (bad) experience.

Seriously??? It is fairly obvious most comments here are from microsoft fanboyz who are too scared to try anything new.

I use windows, osx and ubuntu every day. I can do everything I want including play games on linux. I'm playing ARK: Survival Evolved http://store.steampowered.com/app/346110at the moment on Ubuntu because it's faster than windows.

I usually get the itch to try linux, then try some random popular distro, but wtf , why I am wasting time tweaking this os when I could be watching some shit on internet!

So ......

Reject Windows 10 and Switch to Windows 7 :D

10 is just another "ugly" 8 remake(Yeah using it right now!)

Since the whole article doesn't make too much sense - let's create the world around it

and bend a few unimportant details - like reality.

Here goes:

The author started drafting the article in 1998 - he got distracted

Done. Tada!

Most of the corporate world will be on widows 7 tell about 2019 most will make the switch by then, they not studding about windows 10 yet. Some of them just made the switch off XP ..Some governments paid for extra support for XP. and China still uses it a lot and they have the most people.

Windows 7 was evaluated by 8 million beta testers worldwide before it was released.. Windows 7 was released to manufacturing on July 22, 2009, and became generally available on October 22, 2009 and didn't become the number #1 O/S tell Oct , 2011. With Windows 10 its Déjà vu because 45 % of the PC market is corporate. One thing that's holding it back there's some government websites that only support IE 10 if the upgrade to newer windows it want work. I think most of UK government sites were still using very old IE was why they paid in 2014 all that money to extend XP 1 more year.

Once government websites make the switch to ether IE 11 or EDGE then a lot of business will have no choice but to upgrade to new windows . the governments of the world are behind so some businesses that get government funding will remain behind .

Well ..Windows for the general public seems to be just a screen with big icons you click on to get what u want.

So a linux release that behaved the same way would probably be easier for the masses.

Not that i like that awful metro interface with the gaint icons.

I use Classic Shell 4.22 to negate the worst of it.

I suppose it's all about the programs and unless Linux can give people what they are used to or at least very very similar in a simple "click here" way i can't see anything changing soon.

Though Linux has got a lot better in the last few years.

Maybe Wine or something similar will become an easy to use one click option in the future.

We're talking about the general public here ,not you and I :)
