Why dont they make this a default setting if it makes firefox faster?

Because setting them to True makes little to absolutely zero difference.

Pipelining reduces network load and can reduce page loading times over high-latency connections, but not all servers support it. Some servers may even behave incorrectly if they receive pipelined requests. If a proxy server is not configured, this preference controls whether to attempt to use pipelining.

This applies to Chromium, but is an interesting read on the subject of HTTP pipelining...

https://www.chromium.org/developers/design-documents/network-stack/http-pipelining

There are also some interesting Firefox config tweaks here, if you still really want to go for it...

When it comes to these tweaks, I've been very skeptical...

Me too - I worry that you cause more harm than good. One of the drivers of Firefox is speed, so wouldn't these be enabled if they were fine?

Maybe if you enabled pipelining would issue connectivity troubles, not because of the pipelining itself, but might be because your connection is under some kind of monitoring.

People can always run browser speed tests with and without these settings enabled. People have already done this using the top 100+ sites on the net and changing them provides no benefit whatsoever. In some instances the pages even loaded slower with them enabled. Just leave the settings at default. :)

these tweaks popup all over the place, and many topics on nsane already, If i remember right tweaking some options can cause you to get banned from certain web sites if your sending to many requests.
