Back at CES 2015, Intel unveiled the Intel Compute Stick, a complete computer in a significantly compact form factor. Now, those looking for such a compact machine are in for a treat as the device is finally available for purchase.

Powered by full Windows 8.1, or more specifically, the free ‘Windows 8.1 with Bing’, the Intel Compute Stick packs a quad-core Intel Atom processor, Intel HD Graphics, 2GB of DDR3 RAM, 32GB of onboard flash storage that’s expandable via MicroSD, integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and one USB 2.0 port. That’s pretty decent considering how small the Compute Stick is.

“It’s powerful, small, mobile, and green. It’s fast, easy-to-use, and loaded with tons of storage. Its graphics are outstanding. Its sound quality is impressive. It has all the quality and performance you’ve come to expect from Intel. And it’s ready to get to work, or have some fun, right out of the box.” - Intel

The device connects via a HDMI connector, and Intel claims that the Compute Stick is perfect for those looking to turn their TV’s into a home entertainment computer, or for those looking to get productive on any HDMI capable PC monitor.

Recent reviews of the product have found that it is as capable performance-wise as any of the new Windows 8.1 mini tablets and mini PC’s, despite its much smaller form factor, and Windows runs lag-free.

“Despite the above shortcomings, the Compute Stick did impress us in a few areas - the form factor and portability aspects are praiseworthy. The CPU performance is not as bad as we feared it would be - Windows loads in a smooth manner and the system is as responsive as what one can expect from a Bay Trail-based mini-PC.” - Anandtech

If you’re interested in the Intel Compute Stick with Windows 8.1, you can get it now for $149.99 from online retailers such as Amazon, Newegg, and BestBuy among others.
