Twitter to acquire Twitpic

Twitter will acquire Twitpic, a website that allowed users to post photos to the microblogging site.

Twitpic announced on its blog that, after the “roller coaster ride” of recent months, it has reached an agreement with Twitter that gives the social media site the Twitpic domain and photo archive — a move that will keep the photos and links alive.

“This will be my (@noaheverett) final chapter with Twitpic, and again I want to say thank you for allowing me to be a part of your photo sharing memories for nearly seven years. It has been an honor,” Twitpic founder Noah Everett said in the post.

Twitpic shut down in September. The company decided to throw in the towel following a trademark dispute with Twitter in which the social network threatened to cut off Twitpic’s access to its API, wrote Everett.

This is the new economy. Make a company that hemorrhages cash given by VC firms, acquire a few companies, then sell your company.

No wonder I don't invest in 401Ks, stock market is too rigged.
