The month of September is over, and as always, the ever so reliable folks from Net Applications have revealed how different desktop browsers fared last month. According to the stats, Internet Explorer 8 has continued to field more users, whereas other browsers have shown interesting changes.

First off, Internet Explorer has maintained the top spot in the browser space. Internet Explorer 8, the default browser in Windows 7 (which as of this month has over 52% OS market share) now has 22.25 percent share (up from 21.4% from a month earlier). In case you missed it, the Windows 8.x operating system has shown a slight drop in the latest estimation, as a result of which Internet Explorer 11 too has registered a slid. The browser now has 17.13% market share, down from 17.54% from a month earlier.

The recently released Firefox 32 has begun to show some positive adoption rate. The browser by Mozilla now has 5.9% users, compared to 10.51% of Firefox 31 as of August 2014. Google’s Chrome 37 now has 10.06% market share, compared to the 11.05% Chrome 36 users as of last month. Internet Explorer 10 has again lost a few users, sliding from 6.18 percent to 5.58%. Other browsers including MxNitro, Opera, and Safari now have over 25.78% share.

That is matter of concern - not joy, let me explain.

The worlds leading OS, in terms of market share is Windows 7, which ships with Internet Explorer 8, as default - this also translates in most people on Earth being the Recipients of Internet Explorer, by providence and not by design.

The concern is that Users are not upgrading to the V11, the V10 or even the V9 - simply because they just don't give a shit for something that they never intend to use (at least, most of them.)

It is a massive tragedy, is what it is.

Doesn't matter if people want to use Office 2003 on an XP box at home, as only they run the risk of hacking.

Put a significant marketshare on IE8 (it has it, though IE7 is DEAD enough), and web developers have to carry the burden of that cancerous shitbag.
