They were turning off their authenticity server to save money. These downloads were only for licensed users because the original editions would crap out when they tried to phone home. No. You got a serial which everyone had the same of. You got no updates. You were not entitled to any discount for upgrades. You had to sign up for an i.d. to download the items.
