Windows 9 UI updates revealed in new leak introducing Modern UI 2.0

Based on several trusted sources from around the Internet, the Windows Threshold (aka Windows 9) technical preview will be available at the end of September for everyone to try, but there’s still plenty we don’t know about Microsoft’s next major operating system. Much has been made of the returning Start menu and Cortana’s transition to the desktop, yet we still don’t have a clear picture of how Threshold will build upon the interface of Windows 8.

Microsoft will be looking to include features in Threshold that will make it more competitive with mobile operating systems such as iOS and Android. In fact, based on this report, any device that doesn’t require a desktop component will be entirely dependent on the Modern UI (or Metro style, as it was previously known).

There won’t be any more switching back and forth — you’ll either have a desktop view or the Modern UI. This is apparently Microsoft’s recovery plan following the confusing launch of Windows RT.

the new Start screen will feature interactive live tiles, but not every app will support interactivity at launch. Modern UI will also reportedly include a notification center of some description, but details are slim. Expect something similar to the notification center on Windows Phone. Speaking of Windows Phone, live tiles might be making their way to Windows tablets in Threshold and Cortana should have a dedicated live tile of its own on the Start screen.

Windows 8/8.1 has quite a few things that are better than Win7 & I expect 9 to have even more. There's really no reason to stay on 7 when there's a plethora of start menu replacement options and the ability to boot straight to desktop. It's more stable than 7, the task manager is leaps and bounds better than 7, better file transfer progress window, faster boot & shut down, 'the storage spaces feature, better performance, native iso mounting, etc, etc...

How many ways would you like me to debunk your "Windows 8 is more stable than 7" argument, come up with a number, and ill double it...remember i am fixing PC's every day, and NONE have soaked up more time than EVERY Windows 8 box ive seen since it launched (ask me how running Windows 8.1 or 8.1 Update 1 on 2 completely identical boxes both fail, but at different percentages, and one goes through the 2nd time but doesnt authenticate but keeps its 3rd party programs, and the other only goes through the update the 4th time, removes all 3rd party programs, but at least authenticates...........and thats just an example, which i have to say after working in companies with up to 4,500 seats, NEVER happened with ANY other version of windows....its why im ETERNALLY glad im working out of the corp sector while windows 8 is about...fricking nightmare, i have real fear about what life would be like to deal with the crap ive seen it do x 4,500.........likewise ill debunk the assertions about performance , and oh, everything else you mention.

Sorry, but lets be realistic here, Window s8 is a pig that should be taken out into the back paddock, and shot and then sliced into tiny pieces afterwards

Please, not the you're wrong becasue I fix computers thing. I don't know how many times I've heard that entire spiel & I'm quite certain you're greatly exaggerating when you say "EVERY Windows 8 box ive seen since it launched". I fix PC's also and have never once experienced anything you stated. The deleting of all 3rd party apps more than likely came from having the preview build of 8.1 installed, or from upgrading from a prior version of Windows. Let's be realistic here, you're doing it wrong. Cheers. :-)

Nicely said spudboy. I'm running Windows 8.1 for 3 months now and I wasn't tempted at all to go back to Windows 7. Windows 8 runs excellent, and as you said, it is really fast and stable.

Cheers ;)

I forgot a 'feature'. SuperHD is not available for Netflix on any version of Windows under 8. It requires the Netflix app from the Windows Store.

Thanks but again, youre wrong, show me any Toshiba laptop sold in the last 6 months that comes with Windows 8 dev preview on it......and the others ive upgraded also came with Windows 8 as the base OS, not upgraded from any other previous version and so, yeah, it turns out im not an incompetent fool after all...maybe think before you try and look like a hero :)

And when i said every windows 8 box, i meant it LITERALLY, for reals even
