Give it a Try, Pale Moon x64 Accel build.

Pale Moon is web browser based on Mozilla Gecko rendering engine source code.

Pale Moon community and devs took a different way from Mozilla Firefox. Not in a completely different direction tho.

Pale Moon didn't adopted australis UI, as well as the settings limitation seen in FF. They have a mixed hybrid classic interface. Pale Moon itself has a balance of features from its own and from what FF has.

The advantages of Pale Moon are better stability, optimized for modern CPU's in general, and the great opportunity for people with x64 CPU and Windows to run a native x64 version of Pale Moon. It will do great on modern computers. But that's not all, Pale Moon allows some 3rd Party Builds, and there is where it comes Pale Moon x64 Accel Build for AVX capable CPU's. You have to be running a AVX capable CPU, you can check this by using CPU-Z under "Instructions" See picture below.

Things to think about:

- This x64 Accel build has all the features that default Pale Moon x64 version has, plus it's set to work with AVX instructions.
- This build is very recommended for people who is running computers with more than 4GB RAM, since this x64 version will allow the web browser to use a lot more RAM than a common x32 version, it will run heavy java content webs just incredibly fast.
- You should not go for a native x64 browser if you use a lot of plugins, outside the common ones like "JAVA and ADOBE" Which both support x64 browsers. If you don't have any kind of authentication plugins or 3rd party plugins, you can go with this build with no problem. Just remember to check if the plugin you usually use are compatible with a x64 browser.
-Addons in general are compatible with Pale Moon x64, I haven't had any issues with addons I used to use in FF.

My personal note:

I switched from Firefox to Pale Moon x64 Accel build. Basically because I only use default plugins, JAVA and ADOBE. So I wouldn't have any compatibility issues with it. I have 8 GB RAM and I feel like they are a waste to my computer, barely use more than 4GB. So I installed it and it will use a LOT more ram when running heavy webs, but they will run just extremely smooth and fast. And like I said that's useful for my RAM, it feels useful to let my browser use more of it to get increased performance.
I Like the old Firefox UI and Pale Moon has it, that worked for me. I also liked the privacy respect from Pale Moon devs which is way stronger than what FF can offer you. Pale Moon runs faster, more stable, and I can customize it better than FF.
I'm just sharing this because you never know when you will want to get the max out of your RAM "When you have a lot of it", and of your CPU of course.

Pale Moon didn't adopted australis UI, as well as the settings limitation seen in FF.

That's because Pale Moon is based off of Firefox ESR 24.7, which is a version of Firefox 24 that continues to receive security updates without any feature updates (which is counter-intuitive in a hyper-evolving internet). Firefox ESR 24.8 will also be the last ESR build before Pale Moon will be required to move to Firefox ESR 31 (which will natively include Australis, added in Firefox 29) in order to keep receiving security updates.

My personal note:

Why Java?

I have high respects for Pale Moon and every program that dares to rise above 32-bit. RlW5CMh.gif

x64-based software FTW!

Accel build 64-bit crashed my PC- my Phenom Triple Core evidently is not "modern" enough. No matter; Pale Moon 64-bit has been my default browser for a few years, now.

They don't plan adobpting Australis UI, not even with the future ESR. They will manage to have it hybrid.

Which is pretty easy to accomplish given the extensions available for post-Australis Firefox now.

this AVX build is great, I can really feel the difference on speed between this and FF when using this. I love FF with new UI but this build gives me difficult choice to keep using FF

Absolutely, there is a clearly perceptible difference in speed between a x64-bit browser and a x32-bit browser.

You feel what I feel - just also like the ones who have already written, before us (on this thread, so far - quite likely, thanks to a well-configured system.) F3h9xqz.gif

Many others, though - might like to believe that this feeling of ours is nothing but a placebo . . . . . . . . . . . . . Muppets!!! x3218mP.gif

Yeah I know right. I noticed it when using some heavy java streaming websites. On my 32bits FF they lagged a lot, like freezes of 3-5 secs. Now it barely lags for 0,5 to 1 second as a max.

  • 1 month later...

Is it possible to install x64 bit Pale Moon (in separate folder) while still keeping its x32 version ?

I want to try this x64 version first before I decide for good (addons might be incompatible).
