This is not security and privacy news. Get get the password reset you must have another account with administrator access and use control userpasswords2 (windows key r type control userpasswords2 and press enter) and there is a option to reset the administrator password there.

First of all - wrong section. Holmes -- you are wrong. There are several ways to reset the Administrator's password.

One of them is to start from a BootCD (a dozen is to be found here or on the Internet -- e.g. Hiren's BootCD) which can go through Windows Secured Store and remove the account password.

No need to have an account with Admin Rights. No need to have an account AT ALL :)

C:\Users\SC-PC>net user administrator password *

The syntax of this command is:

NET USER

[username [password | *] [options]] [/DOMAIN]

username {password | *} /ADD [options] [/DOMAIN]

username [/DELETE] [/DOMAIN]

username [/TIMES:{times | ALL}]

C:\Users\SC-PC>net user administrator *

Type a password for the user:

Retype the password to confirm:

System error 5 has occurred.

Access is denied.

C:\Users\SC-PC>net user administrator *

Type a password for the user:

Retype the password to confirm:

System error 5 has occurred.

Access is denied.

i guess the old command net user xp trick don't work anymore

There are several ways to reset Windows 7 password, I had the same problem as you on my Dell laptop, and I can share how to reset

1.Use password reset disk, this is an easy way if you have made a password reset disk, just do as the instruction when appearing "Wrong password"

2.Reset Windows 7 password by command prompt, but you should login your Windows as administrator. Click on Start and type “cmd” in the Search box and press Enter, then type net user ( all user accounts on your computer will be listed). Type net user "username" "new password "(replace username and new password with yours), press Enter, then the password will be reset as new one and you can logon Windows 7 with it.

3. Use third party programs to reset Windodws 7 password. You can search Windows password recovery tool on Google, you will find there are many programs. You need a program which is easy to use and safe.

"Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0" is a good choice, you can try at http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com/

Good Luck!
