ok I think I understand what's going on here. I was able to directly download the masters.mst file as instructed in the word document, and I replaced it as instructed in the word document. my current spyware defs are v574 and it protects me against 114,403 threats in lieu of 110,000 so this is a direct download of the definitions I am assuming, but my question is how do you know the next number ? In other words this master was 420 so would the next one be 421 ??

am I in the ballpark about what the master file is ?? lol

i think you mis-understood me, your suppost to put the currently installed masters version in the URL. it'll download the latest sigs no matter what version number is present :o

Ok is it best if I do a fresh reinstlalation of SpySweeper.. Also that Master.mst, do I replace that with the Master.base?

I just reinstalled SpySweeper and applied that Masters file int he masters folder.. But I get it as Expired...

the master.mst file IS your signature database. so your just manually updating it, instead of using the internal updater. and, no, you don't need the fix to use it :o

it will stay expired but ur definitions will be up to date once u replace the master file. ur definition files should be v574 once u replace the master file. u don't need the fix cuz ur not fixing anything ur jus updating ur definition files manually in lieu of an auto update. do u understand now ?

IT'S NOT A FIX, your manually updating your signatures file (ie. you have to do everything in the guide EVERYTIME you wanna update). ya might aswell block net acces to spysweeper with your firewall or something :o

hopefully, someone will code me an actual updater, cause i honestly dont have the required knowledge (nor the time for that matter) :o

nope u gotta do it urself by using the link provided in that word document. so basically u have to speculate that they update the definitions every other day or so maybe every 3 days i dunno for sure.

This trick in xxx - country does not work , there is a need of an exe file -named-

update.exe that makes this job of replacing the masters.mst for the new one

like it makes from DVT for the 3.xxx.xx SpySweeper versions.

Note that for the 3.xxx.xx the master.mst twice in size that of the 4.xxx.xx

and now it have the version number 535.

@dodo - you only need to change the language, not the country location, example...

@Greg214 - it should work forever, i mean, think about it for a sec. if they change the link, anyone that tries to use the 4.x trials won't be able to update. so they literally CAN'T change the URL :o

This manual update method is good. Looks like when I update my ewido definitions. Well, I´m still dreaming with an universal patch for SpySweeper trial. Something like the Natabec Patch for SpySweeper 3.5.198

This patch was fantastic. Made to beat the SpySweeper´s trial period, I used it for a long time until the SpySweeper 4.x series. Unfortunately no patch (like this one) has been made for the 4.x versions. Maybe one day...

Should I try to download the .mst file using this address?

Before this change I had 114.552 protection (now 114.403!), and the spyware definitions were 575 (now they're 574) Is it right?

well, if someone were to make an updater using the new method we wouldn't need to fix spysweeper any more. we'd just need to run the updater every day or so :o
