What is good for windows 8 ,does not mean it is good for 8.1.

So far there are none that work perfect.

Bitdefender free is buggy and turns itself off.

Norton 2014 works but is buggy

Avast works well but still says incompatible at each startup.

Kaspersky 2014 does not work

webroot secureanywhere works but is also buggy

that is all that i have tried

is there any antivirus for windows 8.1 ?

many, but pay attention to the compatibility, use incompatible antivirus on 8.1 cause bsod.

basic users should use eset nod. it could do best work without any attention.

if you want sandbox, try comodo, avast.

on 8.1 I have Norton AV 2014, very light on resources , alongwith Tuned OP pro firewall. Rock solid combo when router firewall is also on and tweaked.

After installing the 8.1 update, I found the existing AV, Avira Internet Security 2013, would not run. I replaced it with Qihoo 360 Internet Security, now on version 4.8.0.4800. This has 3 engines; 360 Cloud Engine, QVM II Engine & BitDefender Engine and a Sandbox. Qihoo 360 Internet Security works very well in Windows 8.1 with no compatibility issues.

@Ice Dragon

Thanks for asking, I have not tried Avira Internet Security 2014 because of the following:

After the 8.1 update, there were problems, one of them being that Avira Internet Security 2013 would not run. This 2013 version was uninstalled; I did not have a key for 2014 so I downloaded and installed the Avira AV free version and this also would not run. So I thought there are some issues for Avira to sort out with 8.1, I would leave Avira for a while until a satisfactory version was available.

Being a person that fixes other peoples computers, I thought this was a great opportunity of trying something new. After some research, I installed Qihoo 360 Internet Security for a trial to see what it is like.

Avira has been my first choice since 2009 and it would have been had I not tried 360 Internet Security. Surprisingly, I like it so much I have not got round to installing Avira Internet Security 2014. The next machine I fix, where a free AV is required Qihoo 360 Internet Security definitely would be my first choice.
