Dubbed WiMAX, the system can transmit and receive wireless broadband signals.WiMAX, or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access is touted as the next generation Internet wireless technology.Intel claims it can connect to a broadband signal several miles away, compared to a few hundred feet usually accomplished by WiFi. This is ideal for areas where DSL or Cable cannot be connected. The speed is impressive too, up to 40 Mbps.So far major companies like British Telecom, AT&T and Qwest are set to begin commercial trials with WiMAX later this year.Techspot says, Formerly known as "Rosedale", the technology is based on the IEEE 802.16-2004 standard..Intel has said that it should help provide seamless wireless Internet access for applications.Source Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
