Forget about retail Edition as you can not activate.! Uninstall Retail install Volume License Edition and activate with MAK keys posted on Page # 1 >>>

Thanks, i'll try. Just so you know: Installed all software incl. Office 2013 under W8 first. Then upgraded to 8.1, then put that key in, called the number, etc. Tried other key before.. Same thing.

Is this a W8.1 upgrade issue?

On another system, i put in key and called BEFORE W8.1 upgrade, it was deactivated after 8.1. Called, but got the same not verified message.. But, the ID was the same as earlier, so put in the confirmation again and presto.. Activated..

I'm worried that 8.1 messed something up in Office..

I suggest Complete Uninstall Office 2013 and reinstall the Office 2013 With SP1 Posted on page 1 >>>

When you uninstall Office use the Official MS tooll see the instruction there >>> Completely Uninstalling Office 2013

Also i highly recommend reading this too >>> If you can not get verified calling MS [Delete KMS Activation/Server, Office key and integrity scan]

I do not have Office 2013 SP1 with SP1 Retail Edition except En, Ru however i suggest use SP1 VL Edition cause there is no difference between Retail and VL all language download links on Page #1 >>>

There is no difference between Volume License and Retail Version only different kind of key to activate all functionality same

PS: You have change few installation ID make sure you set the PC same condation before you had this installation ID after that open activation wizard and look make sure Installation ID match above before inserting Confirmation ID !
