Been using the Stardock ObjectDock Plus since a really long time and as expected, it's a quality offering from the Stardock stable.

About a couple of weeks ago, just tried out the Winstep Nexus Ultimate and was quite taken aback to find that it blows the Stardock Object Plus apart. Noobs will hate the Winstep Nexus Ultimate for it's array of overwhelming features and advanced Users might hate it, too in case they possess a low-powered system. :P

Me, I'm sold on the Winstep Nexus Ultimate - have not commented on the RocketDock (find it too tame for my taste.)

Edit:

This poll seems to aim at pitting three basic proponents - the Rocketdock, ObjectDock and the Nexus. I'd recommend (instead) the more superior flavors highlighted in red. ;)

RocketDock - the simplest possible solution available. Good as gold. Fast, reliable, stable. Has a good add-on support.

Nexus - Has the most features, most additional tweaks in the settings panels, and generally a wide array of functions. The most overwhelming piece of eye-candy out there.

Stardock - right down in the middle. Not as complex as Nexus, not as streamline as RD. Can't comment much further, for me it was a memory gulper, and that's a big no-no.

@eugene88: Essentially, they can all do the job pretty well. With proper icons, themes, panels, (and in the case of RD a few additions) you can get there easily.

Both Stardock + and Nexus Xtreme have shelves next to the basic Dock function. Having said that, there are themes for all three that have been customised especially to look as much alike to the Mac version as possible. RD is more no-nonsense. You get one dock and that's it.

Forgot to mention, you might consider Rainmeter for its breadth of themes and add-ons (I remember several Mac-like themes on websites such as deviantArt).

I use Object dock but it crashes a lot on my W7 64

..same here..using Nexus for a month now and no issues..and noticed faster startup and shutdown w/ Nexus compared to Objectdock.. :)

When using Stardock ObjectDock Plus my startup would take a long time for the friggin' dock to get loaded - now that I'm using Winstep Nexus Ultimate, no such issue has ever been observed.

No matter whichever of these 3 Docks one decides to like and use - I believe it's a 'must have' utility for Windows 8 Users.

Unless you have the old style taskbar like BoxingChaos's, why do you guys bother having a dock in Win 7/8 when the 'taskbar' is essentially one?

Let's see yours...

LOL, this is threatening to balloon into a "you show me your polly and I'll show you mine - let's find out whose is bigger." It's reminiscent of the times when I was being ragged in school by my seniors and my pants were being pulled down for better part of the semester. :s

Twas but just a matter of time as I grew in stature and before long it was me who was busy pulling down the trousers and laying bets on who would squirt cum the longest distance.

Do let me know if you'd still wanna take a look - it's never failed to leave women weak and trembling at the knees. :)

Haha... No, just curiosity really. What don't you like about it? I'm not that sad enough to give a shit as to who has the better looking desktop. A pleasing desktop is clearly much like beauty, within the eye of the beholder.

You just earned yourself your first brownie point - welcome to the forums, have fun. :)

Looking at your desktop, I'm sure it must look good (it was opinionated on my part to judge your Firefox which really has no part of it.) :P

Same here. Huge load time.

Tried RD a few back. Is OK.

Nexus seems the way to go, damn. ( I like Stardock stuff, 1 of the few things I pay $$ for)

Although Nexus is on the right track, I still prefer Rocketdock for 4 very important reasons:

1) It's fast.

2) It's light.

3) It's free.

4) It has Stacks!!!

When you use many programs like I do and have, for example, 15-20 different shortcuts for audio & video manipulation software, stacks is the way to go. Nexus' Sub-Docks "train" is not very efficient (not to mention that you need the paid version for activating sub-docks).

And although Punk Labs team seem to have abandoned the Rocketdock project, it still works flawlesly on my Windows 7 x64 machine. There's not much more to ask...

What about Launchy or similar alternatives? I used it for a little while on XP days..but I'm kinda lazy and prefer to click to open things instead of typing.
