A new rumor about the still unannounced Google Nexus tablet claims that it is now a "done deal" and could be released for as low as $149, although it may now ditch the Tegra 3 processor from NVIDIA.

There's been lots of rumors that Google plans to step in and release a Google Nexus-branded tablet sometime in 2012. Earlier in March, new rumors claimed that Asus would be the company making the tablet and that it would have NVIDIA's quad-core Tegra 3 processor but priced at just $199.

Now there's yet another rumor about the Google Nexus-Asus tablet over at AndroidandMe.com. The report is based on statements made by an anonymous "senior employee at a supply chain company based in the United States." This employee says that the Google Nexus tablet is a "done deal."

However, the article says that the Tegra 3 processor is now out of the tablet. There's no word on why this happened but the article speculates that it may be replaced by a Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm, with the change in processor also coming with a change in the tablet's price. The article claims that Google is now targeting a $149 price point for the seven inch tablet.

If true, such a price would certainly undercut Amazon's Kindle Fire and Barnes and Noble's Nook Tablet, both of which are currently priced at $199 with 8 GB of storage. The article claims that the tablet will also run Android 4.0, while the Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet both run modified versions of Android 2.3. It's possible that Google could reveal their tablet at the CTIA Wireless trade show in early May.
