nsane.forums
Samsung and Gorilla Glass maker Corning team up to bring the new Lotus Glass to future Samsung OLED and AMOLED displays. The Samsung Galaxy S II, a phone equipped with Gorilla Glass.Although Corning just announced Gorilla Glass 2.0 last month at CES 2012, it seems that the company is teaming up with Samsung to develop OLED screens that are as tough as Gorilla Glass. The new glass is called Lotus Glass, and it'll be made to withstand the high temperatures needed to produce OLED and AMOLED screens. Corning claims that the new substrate is scratch-resistant, and will be able to provide for better picture quality, lower power consumption, and faster response time.Unlike Gorilla Glass, which is just an exterior glass cover for screens, Lotus Glass will be the actual substrate that OLED displays will be built upon. Samsung expects to use the new Lotus Glass in its next generation of mobile displays.Corning originally announced Lotus Glass back in October, so this is just a formal partnership announcement. That said, I would not be surprised to see Lotus Glass being employed in the hotly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S III.
