Windows 8 will be supporting both X86-based processors as well as chips based on the designs of ARM. Now at least one company has announced plans to offer up an ARM-based Windows 8 tablet. Netbooknews.com reports that during a pre-CES 2012 press event in Taipai this week, Asus confirmed plans to offer up a Windows 8 ARM product before the end of 2012.

Microsoft hasn't offered much information on the release date of the ARM-based Windows 8; instead they have concentrated their marketing efforts on the familiar x86 version, which is now available to download as a developers preview and will be released in a beta version in February. Hopefully Microsoft will offer up more information on the ARM-based Windows 8 at CES 2012 next week.

In other Asus news from the press event, the recently launched Android-based tablet Transformer Prime will get a new version with 3G wireless support sometime in March. A new seven inch tablet and a new 10 inch tablet are expected to be fully revealed at CES 2012. Two more 10 inch tablets from Asus are planned for release in the second half of the year.
