Dear REaders,

Ehhh this is a weird problem but not sure how it it happened.

Whenever i download torrents, the torrent is downloaded and it doesn't automatically open in uTorrent like it used to.

And I tried troubleshooting over at uTorrent Forums but not too sure how much they'll help so I thought I'd try here as well.

I sorta figured out the problem but don't know how to fix it.

Basically I need to ADD .torrent into the 'Applications' for FF... I've tried the things uTorrent suggested "Here", those didn't work for me and I've tried them all. So the conclusion is, definitely FireFox since ther eis no option for me to open it with uTorrent it'll just download it to where it is designated.

---

I can't recall installing anything that would affect this as I haven't really done anything different that might cause this.

Thanks.

Does it show any error code?

Edit: Are you sure you went into Firefox and removed TORRENT from the list? After that download a torrent file and select uTorrent?

FireFox > Extra > Options > Applications > TORRENT > Use uTorrent > Application details > utorrent.exe > Delete. No it will probably show 'Always ask'. Now go to TPB and download any torrent, it will show the box 'What should Firefox do with this file?' then select 'Open with', find uTorrent.exe, select 'From now on do the same for this type of files.' and press Ok. Now it will most likely start uTorrent and show the confirmation/selection window of uTorrent or start the download right away(depends on how you configured it).

Nope I don't receive any Error codes as when I click on a Torrent file it just saves to my Folder that I tell it to save things.

In the Applications, I don't recall ever having 'torrent' there... As I wasn't able to remove anything, didn't even know you could remove things from there...

^When I manually save it.. it saves it as a 'text' so then it doesn't recognize it as a Torrent, even if I manaully add .torrent at the end fo the file and select 'all files' opposed to 'text'.

So you're saying Firefox is saving your .torrent downloads as .txt files? That's wrong... Which site are you using? Try different torrent sites(TPB, Mininova).

Doesn't it show TORRENT in your applications screen in Firefox, that is very, very weird. It should and you should be able to remove it following the steps I just provided.

No no it isn't saving them as .txt files. When I save them they are Torrent files, BUT the save dialog isn't like what you described.

It is where you can name it anything but the 'save as' is either 'Text' or 'All Files'. Same with different torrent sites.

And I tried your steps and lol unless something is up..

FireFox > Extra > Options > Applications > TORRENT > Use uTorrent > Application details > utorrent.exe > Delete.

1. I assume the Program itself

2. 'Extra'? Ehhh where do I find that

3. Yes

4. Yes

5. Don't see that listed, even when typing 'Torrent'

---

And only options I have under Applications are 'clear' nothing in regards to like DELETING it...

(You probably already did this)Go into uTorrent Options, Preferences, General and check if 'Associate with .torrent files' is grayed out.

You could also try reinstalling Firefox...

Edit(Not a real one, I just came to think of this): Are you using any Download manager ad-on? Please disable every ad-on and try to download a TORRENT file(also disable IDM or any other Download manager).

Yeah already di the uTorrent stuff and it is grayed out.

Tried reinstallign FF, nothing

For the Download Manager ehhh... IDM, but it isn't being 'used' as the DL is done via FireFox and not IDM.

^Disabled and nothing.

So when you download a file using Firefox you get a IE like Save-as box?

What >does< it show when you select the Applications tab in the Firefox settings? Maybe you disabled the use of the built-in download manager by installing some ad/on or making some tweak(s).

i suggest to do a full clean install, backup your bookmarks with mozbackup. Uninstall firefox & utorrent, use ccleaner an do a registry scan, clean up. Go to start, and search for mozilla (also hidden files), delete those files. Download newest firefox, install. Download newest utorrent and install.

That save box is the problem, but I don't recall ever seeing it before when using firefox. Post that screenshot in the uTorrent forums too. Post all progress we made, it will help them help you.

I think it's some kind of tweak you've done to your firefox...

Check all File types listed in Applications and look for anything unusual, like 'All unknown files' or something that looks like that... If you find it set it to 'Always ask'.

Does it show this 'Save as' dialog with every file? Or with every file not listed in the Applications tab? Please try two more file types not on the list and try two that are on the list.

And I'd like the link to your uTorrent forum topic :dance2: So that I don't ask you stuff already presented there

Ok, good  Hope it works out, but if not we have to get rid of that weird Save as window... So you're saying every file uses this Save as window? Weird, very weird indeed...

Okay strange, using laptop now.. But it seems something to do with the Add-on/Extensions I used is conflicting as my Laptop works fine but then the profile i use for PC isn't working.. gonna try transferring Laptop Profile to PC...

---

EDIT:

Okay so definitely had ot do with the Profile... Not too sure what would have 'ruined' it given that both systems use the 'same' profile... Bahs strange, but fixed now.

Which Add-on/Extensions is causing this problem? It seem I have this problem too but only on certain website (like h33t).

I tried disabling and whatnot... but I couldn't figure it out... So I honestly am not sure which caused it.. Or perhaps it was just a setting I might've changed in the 'about:config' ><
